Blast of Calm

Welcome to my new Healing Nest WordPress blog!  I’ve moved all of my previous posts over to WordPress land, so you won’t be missing anything in the archives, and I’m hoping that this new format will be accessible and a lovely place for you to visit. Feel free to subscribe to this blog on the right-hand side and/or change your bookmarks/settings to reflect this blog move.

Since WordPress is a new adventure for me, this site is still a work-in-progress, so you may notice a few changes here and there when you visit. Colors may change, links may be added, etc. Also, if you’d like to be added to my sidebar links, just email me a note at cputnam@rising-bird.com!

And in honor of this new space, I bring you a piece I created this morning when I was feeling a little shaky.  It’s so true that art calms the body and mind and it certainly did for me today.  A psychologist friend of mine told me that you can’t be anxious and in the creative mode at the same time.  You must use the front part of your brain when creating, so you leave your hind brain (the place where the fight-or-flight response lives) in the dust. Here’s to creating beauty while calming my inner cave woman.

About Courtney Putnam

I first came to healing work through art and writing. Creating collage art and poetry in particular allowed me to deeply understand the benefit of self-expression in the healing process. But, I also began to see the benefit of bodywork (manual work in the form of massage and energywork in the form of Reiki) as keys to unlocking the emotional stresses we hold in our bodies. I became a Reiki practitioner in 2002, received an MFA in Creative Writing in 2003, received my massage license in the spring of 2006, and became a Reiki Master in 2010. In my practice I bring together these three areas -- the body, the mind, and the spirit (or energy body) -- so others may experience profound and positive change in their lives.
