SoulCollage(R) ‘Muse Studios’ – Collaging and Card-Making Sessions
Spend some time this autumn courting your Muse and tending your creative soul through a SoulCollage(R) studio.  Open to both practicing SoulCollagers and those who just want to come and do ‘regular’ collage! Muse Studios focus on a specific theme and include facilitation, image-hunting, collaging, sharing our creations and exploring the themes and intuitive guidance of our images.  No prior collage or art-making experience necessary.

Autumn 2010 Studios:

Alegría!  Cultivating Joy in Everyday Life – Sept. 25th, 1:30-4:30 pm This beautiful Spanish word sounds like what it means: joy.  And there’s no time like the height of the summer-to-fall transition to quicken our hearts with a sense of wonder and delight.  Create a collage whose images remind you to open to those moments of joy that too often escape our notice in the stress and press of daily life.

‘Fools Rush In’ – Exploring the Archetype of the Fool – Oct. 23rd, 1:30-4:30 pm The Tarot deck begins with an image called the Fool. Found in many cultures and mythologies, the Fool represents beginner’s mind: open, innocent, daring, alive with possibility.  In this session we will explore this archetype, whose open face may make us smile with delight, or may rattle our fears of appearing ‘foolish,’ being wrong, being ridiculed!  What faces does the Fool wear in your inner landscape?

Transforming the Inner Critic – Nov. 20th, 1:30-4:30 pm Like many of our ‘shadow’ selves, the Inner Critic has a dual nature.  It can be a sabotaging and relentless presence, eliciting fear, shame and self-doubt.  Or, confronted and engaged, it can reveal its hidden gifts of discernment, focus, and ultimately, support.  We will explore both dimensions of this complex inner figure through our discussion, image-gathering and collaging.

Limited to 6 participants. Pre-registration required 1 week prior to session.  Location: Seattle’s Green Lake area (directions sent upon registration). Facilitator: Alia Calendar, MA, LifeMuse Creations.  Cost:$45. All materials are provided. To register: call 206.363.4454 or emaillifemuse@comcast.net.  Give yourself the gift of some ‘muse time’ this autumn.

Writing Your Memoir (with author Corbin Lewars)
The first thing to remember when writing your memoir is it is not an autobiography, which is the story of your life, memoir is a story from your life. This class is designed for those who perhaps spend more time thinking about writing their memoir than actually writing their memoir. Each week students will discuss an aspect of memoir, such as the importance of theme, character development, the art of using judgment, forms of memoir, or how to weave musings along with plot to keep the story going and then create a scene or chapter based on what was explored in class. Work will be shared each week and feedback will be given. Each participant will leave the class with solid scenes written and the encouragement to keep going.

The classes will be held for six sessions on Monday evenings from 7-9 pm starting September 20th in the Ballard Neighborhood of Seattle. Cost: $240. Register here.

About Courtney Putnam

I first came to healing work through art and writing. Creating collage art and poetry in particular allowed me to deeply understand the benefit of self-expression in the healing process. But, I also began to see the benefit of bodywork (manual work in the form of massage and energywork in the form of Reiki) as keys to unlocking the emotional stresses we hold in our bodies. I became a Reiki practitioner in 2002, received an MFA in Creative Writing in 2003, received my massage license in the spring of 2006, and became a Reiki Master in 2010. In my practice I bring together these three areas -- the body, the mind, and the spirit (or energy body) -- so others may experience profound and positive change in their lives.

  1. Mike Merritt says:

I was thinking about you and your influence on me just this evening. As I watched the bunnies in the yard eating the stale corn bread that mom made the night before. Reading your words I could hear your voice. Gosh has it been that long since I’ve been inspired to write?

  2. Aw, thank you, Mike! And I love the association you make of me and bunnies and stale corn bread! Seems to fit somehow. I wish you inspiring moments to write, write, write!
    best,
    Courtney
